Paton and Baldwins' Fireless

About the Paton and Baldwins' Fireless:

Bagnall Fireless loco 0-4-0

Technical Specs:

Fireless locos rely on filling a tank from a factory stationary boiler full of super-heated water and steam and then using this to provide propulsion. These locos would work for several hours and then require recharging. The loco is fitted with a mechanical bell to warn of its approach.

History:

These fireless locos were favoured at factories like Paton and Baldwins, a cotton manufacturer who had to operate vehicles in an environment of high fire risk due to the explosive nature of cotton dust.

Current Location:

Darlington Railway Preservation Society

Please Help this Loco!

Work on these locos and other vehicles costs thousands, and we don't get much cash from other sources so every penny you can spare will help to preserve Darlington's Railway Heritage into the future.
