History:
Delivered new to Thompson Street Gas Works, Stockton on Tees, and was moved in 1964 to Darlington Gas Works for one year before going to St. Anthony’s Tar works in Newcastle.
After 1978, the loco was out of use for four years and became isolated on a short stretch of track. The Darlington Railway Preservation Society moved to rescue the loco before the scrap men removed it, and in 1982 it was moved and stored by Stan Towler of A.V. Dawson at Middlesbrough.
Following the loco's return to Darlington, it was displayed outside North Road Museum and made an appearance at Croft Traction Engine Rally. It finally arrived at its current location in 1983 and began its restoration in December of that year.
In 1984 the locomotive passed its boiler test and entered service. Over the period of its boiler tickets, it has run in various locations including on our running line at Darlington and the Telford Steam Railway and the Cholsey and Wallingford Railway.

Please Help this Loco!
Work on these locos and other vehicles costs thousands, and we don't get much cash from other sources so every penny you can spare will help to preserve Darlington's Railway Heritage into the future.
